Pro linebacker from Atlanta hit and killed by drunk driver

Edwin Jackson was from Atlanta, Georgia. The linebacker made it into the NFL in 2015 and played for the Indianapolis Colts. Then, his home town felt the shock when news broke that he'd been killed in a car accident.

Jackson had gotten an Uber ride, but he felt sick while the car was going down Interstate 70. The 26-year-old asked his Uber driver if he could pull over. The driver, who was 54 years old, brought the car onto the shoulder.

Both men got out of the vehicle. Tragically, a Ford F-150 pickup truck was coming down the highway at that moment, and it slammed into them. Both Jackson and the driver were killed.

One of the men also got run over by an Indiana State Police trooper who was responding to the accident. At this time, it is unclear which man was hit, and it does appear he was already deceased at the time. The man's body had been pushed into the center of the road by the initial impact.

According to reports, the man who ran into them was an undocumented immigrant. He got out of the truck and tried to run away from the crash scene, but police were able to catch him. They allege that he was intoxicated at the time of the wreck.

Jackson played college ball at Georgia Southern University, and both GSU and the Colts honored him at his funeral.

A tragic situation like this is always incredibly jarring for family members who are left behind. While financial compensation can't take that emotional impact away, it may be able to help with things like funeral costs, medical bills and lost wages.
